Treatment of phantom limb pain

Treatment of patients with phantom limb pain that an amputee can suffer from when the brain has a hard time to “let go” of the missing limb. The patient still feels pain and tension in the missing limb.

Design concept

By augmenting the missing limb visually and using “myoelectric sensors connected to the stump of the missing limb, the patient could control the virtual arm with brain impulses, exactly as the brain controls limbs in the real world.

Experiential qualities and related concepts

Embodiment, focus, hybrid.

Augmentation modality

Auditory, tactile, visual, multimodal.
