Context
Elite speed-skater in training.
Design concept
By measuring and sonifying the forces and accelerations in the front and the back of the skates, skaters gain new information about their technique that they can use to actually improve performance. The point is that the skater expertly appropriates and internalizes a fairly simple parameter mapping of measurements to soundscape.
Experiential qualities and related concepts
Embodiment, empowerment, exertion, fluency, personal, visibility (audibility!).
Augmentation modality
Auditory.
Technical options (for implementation)
Sensors, microprocessor, sound synthesis.
Prototyping techniques (for design and communication)
Difficult to prototype generatively for design, since effective use of the sonification only emerges in actual use. Could be communicated in a video scenario.
